Holly Johnson supports our Campaign
April 20, 2012 2 Comments
As the lead singer of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Holly Johnson is one of the most influential cultural icons of the 1980s. ‘Relax’ will always be the most controversial record ever to grace the Number One spot…and one of the biggest sellers in UK chart history. He’s also an acclaimed author, artist and musical pioneer.
I first came into contact with Holly a few years ago, when DJ Wayne G was remixing Holly’s Disco Heaven. He’d call our flat and inevitably, Wayne would be out. Somehow, we’d end up gossiping on the phone for hours. He’s always been very generous with his time and when asked if he’d write something in support of our campaign, he sent this personal message through in a matter of minutes. He added, somewhat ruefully, ‘It’s not easy to be amusing or snappy on this particular subject….’
“The London AIDS Memorial is for all the fabulous men and women we have known . They should not be forgotten and we should not forget how they influenced who we are today. Ged , Vinnie, Colin, Lisa, Juicy Lucy, Space Princess, Kay and May, Tony, Brian, Leigh, Dolly, Dan, Klaus, Gregory, Jobriath, Rock, Sylvester, Patrick : honour those that fell in a war against a hidden enemy.”
